QuickRef Terms of Use

These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) are a legal agreement between you and the individual developer who provides QuickRef under the m-lab brand (the “Developer”). They govern your download, installation, and use of the QuickRef desktop application (the “Application”).

The Developer is an individual. “m-lab” is a brand name and is not represented as a corporation or other separate legal entity. The publisher identity displayed by Microsoft Store is used to identify the Application’s publisher and does not change the identity of the contracting party under these Terms.

1. Acceptance and scope

By acquiring, downloading, installing, or using the Application, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not download, install, or use the Application.

These Terms apply to version 1.0.0 of the Application and to updates or supplements provided by the Developer unless different terms accompany them. Microsoft Store’s terms, usage rules, and sales conditions also apply to your acquisition and use of the Application. If a conflict cannot reasonably be reconciled, applicable law and the mandatory terms governing the Microsoft Store transaction take priority.

2. Eligibility and minors

You must have the legal capacity required to enter into these Terms. A minor may use the Application only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian where such consent is required by applicable law. A parent or legal guardian who permits a minor to use the Application is responsible for supervising that use to the extent permitted by law.

3. License grant

Subject to your compliance with these Terms and the applicable Microsoft Store rules, the Developer grants you a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, revocable, and non-transferable license to install and use the Application for:

• personal use; and
• your own internal business, professional, educational, or other commercial activities.

This permission for commercial use does not include a right to resell, sublicense, rent, lease, distribute, host, or provide the Application itself to third parties as a commercial service.

The Application is licensed, not sold. The Developer and the Developer’s licensors retain all rights not expressly granted by these Terms.

4. Devices and Microsoft account

You may install and use the Application only on the number and types of compatible devices, and with the Microsoft accounts, permitted by the Microsoft Store listing, Microsoft Store usage rules, and any applicable organizational licensing terms. Those rules may change independently of the Developer. You are responsible for maintaining control of the accounts and devices through which you access the Application.

QuickRef 1.0.0 is designed for 64-bit editions of Windows 10 and Windows 11. Compatibility with a particular device, Windows edition, accessibility configuration, or third-party application is not guaranteed.

5. Restrictions

Except where applicable law or a license for included open-source software expressly permits otherwise, you must not:

• copy, redistribute, publish, sell, sublicense, rent, lease, or commercially host the Application;
• reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive its source code;
• bypass or defeat technical, licensing, security, or access restrictions;
• remove or alter copyright, trademark, attribution, or proprietary notices;
• use the Application unlawfully or to infringe another person’s rights;
• introduce malicious code or use the Application to compromise a device, application, or system; or
• represent that you are affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for the Developer, Microsoft, or a third-party application provider without authorization.

Nothing in these Terms restricts rights that cannot lawfully be restricted, including rights arising under mandatory law or applicable open-source licenses.

6. User-created and imported data

The Application allows you to add, edit, delete, and import information such as application names, process names, sheets, keyboard shortcuts, descriptions, tags, translations, and preset data (“User Data”).

You retain any rights you hold in your User Data. You grant the Developer no ownership interest in it merely because you use the Application. You are solely responsible for ensuring that you have the rights and permissions necessary to enter, copy, edit, or import User Data, and that your User Data does not violate copyright, trademark, confidentiality, privacy, employment, contractual, or other rights.

You are responsible for the accuracy of your User Data and for maintaining any backup you consider necessary. The current version does not provide cloud synchronization, account-based recovery, cloud backup, or JSON export. Individual records may be deleted within the Application, but the availability and effect of bulk deletion may depend on the version installed.

7. Local processing and storage

QuickRef is an installed desktop application and does not require an account. Its current functionality does not require an internet connection and does not send User Data to an external server operated by the Developer.

To select relevant shortcut information, the Application temporarily detects the executable or process name of the application currently active on your Windows device and processes that name locally. User Data and settings are stored locally on your device. The main database is encrypted, but no local storage method can guarantee protection against every threat, including advanced device analysis or an attacker with administrative access. Certain bootstrap settings, such as language preferences and onboarding status, may be stored without encryption.

The Application may read preset JSON files placed in its local application-data preset directory. You are responsible for the source and contents of files you place there.

8. Shortcut information and third-party applications

Built-in or imported shortcut information is provided for reference. The Developer does not guarantee that it is complete, accurate, current, or suitable for a particular purpose. A shortcut may vary or stop working depending on the target application’s version, Windows version, language, settings, keyboard layout, extensions, licensing plan, or other environment. You should verify important shortcuts against the target application’s official documentation and your actual environment.

QuickRef may refer to third-party applications, products, services, and trademarks. Those names and trademarks belong to their respective owners. Unless expressly stated, their inclusion does not imply sponsorship, endorsement, affiliation, certification, or approval by the relevant owner. Your use of a third-party application remains subject to that provider’s terms and policies.

9. Price, purchase, and refunds

QuickRef is offered as a one-time purchase through Microsoft Store. The Application does not currently offer a subscription, in-app purchases, or advertising. The price, taxes, payment processing, purchase confirmation, territorial availability, and any offer or trial displayed at the time of acquisition are controlled by Microsoft Store and its applicable sales terms.

The Developer does not receive or process your payment-card or other payment credentials. Refund eligibility and processing are governed by the Microsoft Store terms, the offer shown at purchase, and applicable law. Nothing in these Terms limits a refund, cancellation, warranty, or other consumer right that cannot lawfully be limited.

10. Updates, changes, and availability

Updates are distributed through Microsoft Store and are subject to your Store and Windows settings. The Developer may correct defects, modify features or presets, change compatibility, add or remove functionality, or discontinue future distribution or support for the Application. The Developer does not promise that updates, maintenance, support, or compatibility with every future version of Windows or any third-party application will continue indefinitely.

Where required by applicable law, the Developer will provide reasonable notice of a material adverse change or discontinuation. Microsoft controls the operation of Microsoft Store and may separately change or discontinue Store functionality.

The Application is currently localized in English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Spanish, and German. Support may be provided in the languages for which the Application is localized, subject to reasonable availability. Unless required by applicable law, the Developer does not guarantee a particular response time, resolution, or continuing level of support.

11. Intellectual property

The Application, its original interface, code, documentation, and Developer-created content are protected by intellectual property laws. Except for the license expressly granted in these Terms, no right, title, or interest in them is transferred to you.

Open-source components included in the Application remain subject to their respective licenses. If an applicable open-source license conflicts with these Terms concerning that component, the open-source license controls for that component.

12. No affiliation with Microsoft or third parties

Microsoft is not the developer of QuickRef and is not responsible for its maintenance or support. The Developer, rather than Microsoft or the provider of any application referenced by QuickRef, is responsible for QuickRef to the extent required by applicable law.

Microsoft, Windows, Microsoft Store, Visual Studio Code, and all other third-party product names and marks are the property of their respective owners.

13. Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Application and its content are provided “as is” and “as available.” The Developer does not promise that the Application will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure against every threat, compatible with every device or software configuration, or that all defects will be corrected.

In particular, operating-system or third-party application updates may affect functionality; a global hotkey may conflict with other software; and shortcut information or User Data may be inaccurate, lost, or damaged. You are responsible for reviewing important information and taking reasonable steps to protect and back up your data.

This section does not exclude any warranty, statutory guarantee, or consumer remedy that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

14. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Developer will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profit, revenue, business opportunity, goodwill, or data, arising from use of or inability to use the Application.

These limitations do not apply to liability arising from the Developer’s intentional misconduct or gross negligence, death or personal injury where liability cannot be limited, or any other liability that applicable law does not permit the Developer to exclude or limit. If these Terms form a consumer contract, they do not exclude the Developer’s liability in a manner prohibited by the Japanese Consumer Contract Act or other mandatory consumer-protection law.

15. Suspension and termination

Your license ends if you materially breach these Terms and fail to remedy the breach where a remedy is possible. On termination, you must stop using and uninstall the Application, subject to any non-waivable rights under applicable law.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination—including provisions concerning ownership, third-party rights, disclaimers, liability, governing law, and disputes—will survive. Termination does not affect rights or liabilities that arose before termination.

16. Data after you stop using QuickRef

Uninstalling the Application or ending your license may not automatically delete every local file or setting created by the Application. Microsoft Store and Windows control parts of the installation and removal process. Before uninstalling, you should remove data you no longer wish to retain using available in-app or Windows tools and make any backup you require. The Developer cannot remotely access, delete, restore, or recover your locally stored data.

17. Changes to these Terms

The Developer may update these Terms to reflect changes to the Application, distribution method, law, or business practices. The updated Terms will state a new effective date and will be published through the m-lab support site, Microsoft Store listing, or another reasonable channel.

Material changes will apply prospectively unless applicable law permits otherwise. They will not retroactively remove rights that have already accrued without any notice or consent required by law. If you do not agree to updated Terms, you must stop using the affected version of the Application.

18. Severability and no waiver

If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, it will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted and the remaining provisions will remain in effect. A failure or delay in enforcing a provision is not a waiver of the right to enforce it later.

19. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. The Tokyo District Court will have exclusive jurisdiction as the court of first instance for disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Application, except where mandatory consumer-protection or procedural law gives you the right to bring a claim in another court or under another law.

Before filing a claim, you and the Developer are encouraged to attempt in good faith to resolve the issue through the contact channel below. This does not prevent either party from seeking urgent relief or exercising a right within a statutory limitation period.

QuickRef is provided by an individual developer under the m-lab brand. Support and contact details are made available through the QuickRef Microsoft Store listing and the m-lab support site. Microsoft does not provide support for QuickRef.
